Introduction Birra Messina was founded by the family Lo Presti - Faranda in 1923, initially bore the name of Trinacria Beer and only later the name was changed to Messina "beer of Sicily." In 1988 the company was acquired by Dreher Messina SpA of Milan, in the meantime become Heineken Italy, 11 years later in 1999, the group decided to use the plant as only Messina bottling plant, with a production of about 500,000 hl per year , most of which are destined for the market in Sicily, Messina where the brand is known and loved for over 80 years.

The History 17/01/2007 The CEO of Heineken Italy Spa Peter Hebron with a statement to the workers and trade union federations announced that the Messina cease its manufacturing activities and transfer the work units at other locations scattered throughout the national territory by the end of September 2007.
After less than a month after the closing of the brewery and various forms of strong protest is a candidate to the purchase of factory a famous family of entrepreneurs Siciliani: the Faranda, or the family that founded the brewery in 1923. They began the negotiations that went on for about a year. At the end of December 2007, the negotiations between HEINEKEN spa and TRISCELE srl concluded with the following agreement: Article 2112 of the Civil Code (sale of business unit) the TRISCELE Ltd, whose sole director Dr. Francis Faranda detects the old brewery and all the workers for an amount of € 4,260,000.00 and signed an agreement that does not involve changes than those who were the old economic and organizational structure of the plant for a period of three years; further employees agree to transfer all of their severance pay amounting to € 1,331,685.70. from the coffers of Heineken to those of the successor company. The plan presented by the family Faranda employees and the city had to give momentum to what was to be the future of the brewery. The process of the agreement with Heineken would have required the Triscele bottle on behalf of the multinational again for six months from the date of taking over, as well as their own products. But even before the expiration date (6 months) began the first signs of the crisis, and only after this period began the complications in economic and organizational. Assuming that the facilities of the factory were designed with a production capacity of packaging beer with volumes ranged from: 400,000 to 600,000 HL.

The crisis As reported by the administrator (Mr. Faranda) to the workers, the glassworks created resistances to sell the bottles to Triscele and those who had to sell beer from bottle has failed to those who were the letters of intent, in short, the Triscele was forced to buy bottles priced and more expensive and require the production of the beer according to precise recipe from a brewery in Slovenian incredibly high prices were as high transportation costs from the place of production, up to Messina. But how much beer Faranda would have to sell in order to pay the salaries of the employees and have profit margins? In short, a huge economic hole as the magnificent interior renovation of the rooms used as offices, complete with furniture, or the ghostly installation of a large plant stems used, dismantled in Slovenia by a large team of internal staff to Triscele, to be brought to Sicily reassembled again, instead become project started but never finished like so many others; Ex: shop (sale to the public of beer and gadgets), soft drink mixing plant built but never opened, purchase of four large tanks (now scrapped), dining filtration renovated, furnished with all the filtering equipment and never used etc ... and yet the management of raw materials that were missing for weeks, in short speech infinity of waste and mismanagement.
After about a year from the takeover of the new company, 9 employees are included in the circuit of mobility, waiting for retirement and the remaining staff in rotation for 30 days is placed under the IGC, all of this to try to recoup the costs of establishment and simultaneously, the Triscele using the technical expertise of the staff manage to build a small dining area that will allow the same company to produce beer. But as the costs for the management of the brewhouse turned out quite high, debts continued to pile up. They also add to the costs of management of the various packaging systems which, as mentioned above, are not dimensioned compared to the actual production of the budget Triscele which varied between 30,000 and 40,000 HL. Begs another question: But Dr. Faranda, what he did before taking over at Heineken? Should not have done those accounts previously, planning all the various activities that invest a beer?
As a result, from 'Directors at RSU, together with the trade union federation, was told that if he wanted to carry on the business in question and thus keep people in work, it was imperative that the employees would have to undergo sacrifices. Also from the employees was undertaken from January 2010 the contract of solidarity (REDUCTION salary) with the expected duration of eighteen months, the proceeds of the savings of that time would have to be used to create new investments. Subsequently in June 2011 was started by the CGI (layoffs) extraordinary (twelve months) which was later accepted by the competent bodies only in the following November. The last reported monthly arrears per month of May 2011 was bestowed by Triscele particularly the second week of November of the same year (leaving all employees without pay for five months), not to mention that the workers would still have received a few thousand of euro allowances, holidays, food stamps etc. ..
Following a decision of the TAR of Catania on 26/05/2009 declaring the building area of Via Bonino, workers with fear of dismissal went to the municipality, occupied the boardroom for twenty-four hours and spurred local councilors to they vote the resolution suitable to the passage dell'edificabilità the former "Birra Messina", all this in spite of the unfavorable comments councilors who claimed to feel the smell of speculation. Just obtained a copy of the resolution is premurarono employees to deliver it to Mr. Faranda in the face which saw almost a sign of disapproval of the resolution issued by the city council, but this does not discourage them as employees were thrilled by the results obtained but mostly hopeful and confident about their future.
But the hope and confidence was lost when almost at the end of the period of extraordinary layoff the Triscele begins to show his true intentions, sending letters of dismissal to employees using it as motivation to decide on the change of intended use and adducendone the blame for delays of city politics and its representatives. Then thanks to the intervention of the prefect is obtained by the withdrawal of layoffs, is concerned bodies to be granted a further period of IGC in derogation from 01/06/2012 to 31/12/2012 (7 months) this period granted to the company will be used to prepare a business plan and proceed with the relocation.
In November 2012 will conclude all regional procedures to change the intended use of the land area of Via Bonino, and only today Faranda family discovers the cards, or that the relocation process would take place only after the monetization of the land without which it is impossible to prepare a business plan, which means that all employees, the expiration date of the layoffs notwithstanding (31/12/12), will be put to mobility (redundant).
The real interest of the family Faranda, was without any doubt to drive in a hidden way a company crisis and try to appear fair to citizenship, after obtaining huge profits from the street Bonino after the change of destination of use; this certainty is also corroborated by the judgment N ° 04296/2002 REG.RIC, the TAR of Catania issued on the filing date of 26/05/2009, where it is clear that Triscele successor to Heineken (I present appeal in 2002) in the judgment of 'area with the memory of the aforementioned 07/10/2008, ie after just six months after the acquisition of the brewery.

What a huge insult, rather than FRAUD suffered in the first person by the employees of which the only fault was that they believed, in memory of their old affections, in the name Faranda and after from the same city in all its civil representatives: political and Institutional.
